A coil, or atomiser head, is the small metal-and-cotton part that heats your e-liquid into vapour. It is a consumable: the wick clogs and the wire tires with use, so it needs swapping regularly.

What Is the Difference Between MTL and Sub-Ohm Aspire Coils?
It comes down to how you draw and how much vapour you want. Mouth-to-lung heads, such as the Nautilus BVC and the PockeX, sit at higher resistances above 1.0ohm, run at low wattage, and give a tight, cigarette-style draw with a stronger throat hit on less power.
Sub-ohm heads, such as the Cleito and Odan mesh, drop below 1.0ohm, run hot on higher wattage, and produce big, warm, direct-to-lung clouds. Restricted DTL heads like the Nautilus mesh 0.7ohm sit between the two.
Pick the style that matches how you already vape rather than chasing the biggest number, and you will get the best from your kit.
What Do the Resistance Numbers Mean?
The ohm figure printed on a coil tells you roughly how it will behave. As a rule of thumb:
- Above 1.0ohm: tighter MTL draw, cooler vapour, low wattage, and a good partner for higher-strength nic salt or 50/50 e-liquid.
- 0.6ohm to 1.0ohm: a looser MTL or restricted DTL draw, a bit warmer, sitting in the middle of the range.
- Below 0.6ohm: open sub-ohm DTL, warm and cloudy, higher wattage, best with low-strength high-VG liquid.
Always vape a coil inside the wattage range stamped on it or printed on the pack. Push a head far past its range, and you cook the cotton, which is the fastest way to a burnt taste and a wasted coil.
How Do You Fit and Prime a New Aspire Coil?
Priming is the step people skip, and it is the one that saves coils. Whether your head screws into a tank or pushes into a pod, the routine is the same.
- Take the tank apart or slide the pod out of the device.
- Unscrew or pull out the old coil and set it aside.
- Drip two or three drops of e-liquid straight onto the exposed cotton in the wicking ports of the fresh coil.
- Fit the new head. Screw-in for tanks, firm push-fit for pods, finger-tight only.
- Reassemble, fill, and let it stand for five to ten minutes so the wick soaks through.
- Start a notch below your usual power and build up over the first few puffs.
That short soak and gentle start let the cotton saturate fully before it takes any heat. Rush it, and the first draws scorch dry the wick.
How Long Does an Aspire Coil Last?
A few days to a couple of weeks is normal, though heavy all-day vaping shortens that and light use stretches it.
What you put through the coil matters as much as how often you vape. Dark, sweet and high-VG liquids leave more residue and gum up the wick faster than clear 50/50 blends.
When the flavour turns muted, the vapour thins, or you catch a faint burnt edge, it is time for a fresh head.
If a brand-new coil already tastes burnt, it almost always means it was not primed, was run too hot, or was chain-vaped before the wick caught up. Prime properly, ease off the wattage, and give it a moment between draws.
Which E-Liquid Should You Use With Aspire Coils?
Match the liquid to the coil, not the other way round. Higher-resistance MTL heads want thinner liquid: nic salts at up to 20mg or a balanced 50/50 blend wick cleanly through their narrow ports and deliver a satisfying throat hit at low power.
Low-resistance sub-ohm heads want thicker fuel: high-VG e-liquids at lower nicotine strengths keep up with the higher wattage and won't dry the wick out. Put thick high-VG juice through a tight MTL coil, and it starves in minutes. That single mismatch causes most of the dry hits people blame on the coil itself.
