Are Pod Kits MTL or DTL?

Most pod kits are made for mouth-to-lung vaping, but not all of them. Coil resistance, airflow and power work together to set the draw.

Prefilled kits are usually MTL. Many refillable devices cover MTL and RDL by offering different pod resistances or an airflow slider. A smaller number reach DTL territory.

Do not use resistance as the only rule. Coil design has changed enough that two pods marked with the same ohm value can have different recommended wattage ranges. Follow the power range printed on the pod or stated by the manufacturer. 

If a tight inhale is what you want, filter for an MTL kit rather than assuming every compact device will feel the same.

Which E-Liquid Is Best for a Pod Kit?

For a refillable pod, the right e-liquid depends on the coil and draw. Compact MTL pods commonly work well with a balanced 50/50 VG/PG liquid. This thinner blend reaches smaller wicking ports easily and is widely available as nicotine salt or freebase e-liquid.

The quick version:

• Higher-resistance MTL pods commonly pair with 50/50 e-liquid.
• Lower-resistance RDL pods may support a slightly thicker blend.
• High-VG shortfills belong only in pods designed to wick them.
• Prefilled pods need no bottled e-liquid and should not be opened.

Do not guess from bottle size. A 10ml bottle can contain different VG/PG ratios, and a 50ml shortfill may be too thick for a compact pod. The coil or pod guidance settles it.

How Do You Use a Pod Kit?

Each device has its own controls, but first setup usually follows the same order.

1. Identify the pod type. For a prefilled pod, remove the stated seals and activate it as instructed. For a refillable pod, open only the marked filling port.
2. Fit or fill the pod. Insert the prefilled unit securely, or add suitable e-liquid slowly and leave a small air gap.
3. Let a new coil soak. After filling a dry pod, close it and wait about five minutes unless the instructions specify another time.
4. Set the device and vape. Start within the pod’s recommended power range, adjust airflow if available, and inhale or press the fire button as designed.

A burnt taste on the first draw usually means the wick was not fully saturated or the power was too high. Stop rather than repeatedly firing it. Once cotton is scorched, more liquid will not repair it.

How Long Does a Vape Pod Last?

Pod life has two meanings. A prefilled pod lasts until its liquid is finished. A refillable cartridge can often be filled several times before the coil inside needs replacing.

No honest page can give one number for every pod. Sweetened e-liquid leaves residue faster. High power runs the coil hotter. Long, frequent draws use more liquid and put more work through the wick. A plain, lighter liquid at modest power can be easier on a coil than a very sweet flavour used continuously.

Replace the pod or coil when:

• Flavour stays burnt or dull after refilling;
• Vapour production drops sharply;
• The pod leaks repeatedly despite being fitted correctly;
• The device reports a coil error;
• Or the e-liquid has become unusually dark around the wick.

Which Replacement Pods Fit My Vape?

Match the full device name, pod family, and generation. “Vaporesso pod” or “Caliburn pod” is too broad. Resistance comes after fit: a 0.6ohm and 0.8ohm cartridge may both click into the same battery but produce a different draw.

Before ordering, check:

• The complete model name printed on the device;
• Whether the pod is prefilled or refillable;
• Top-fill, side-fill or cartridge generation;
• Fixed-coil pod versus replaceable-coil pod;
• Supported resistance and wattage range;
• Pack size and whether coils are included.

Pod ranges include both prefilled refills and empty cartridges, so read beyond the product image. Two pods can look almost identical and use a different contact layout underneath.

Are Pod Kits Legal in the UK?

Yes. Reusable pod kits remain legal to sell in the UK. The ban that began on 1 June 2025 applies to single-use vapes, including nicotine-free ones. A reusable vape must have a rechargeable battery, a refillable liquid container, and a replaceable coil where a coil is used. A coil sealed inside a replaceable pod can meet that requirement.

Refilling can mean adding bottled e-liquid or inserting a new prefilled pod. Those refill items must be available separately. This is why a rechargeable battery on its own does not automatically make a product compliant with the ban.

Other UK rules still apply. Nicotine-containing tanks and pods are restricted to 2ml, nicotine refill bottles to 10ml, and e-liquid strength to 20mg/ml.
