How Do You Fit and Prime a New SMOK Coil?
Priming is the step that saves coils, so do not skip it:
- Screw or press the new coil into the pod or tank base, depending on your device.
- Drip a few drops of e-liquid directly onto the exposed cotton wicking ports until they look saturated.
- Fill the pod or tank and let it stand for five to ten minutes so the wick soaks through fully.
- Take a few gentle primer puffs (inhaling on the mouthpiece without pressing the fire button) to draw liquid into the coil. Do not apply any power during this step.
- Start at the lower end of the coil's recommended wattage range and build up slowly, rather than firing hard from cold.
Rushing a fresh coil is the quickest way to ruin it. Giving the cotton time to wet through is what prevents that first harsh, dry hit.
How Long Should a SMOK Coil Last?
There is no fixed lifespan, because it depends on how you vape. As a rough guide, most SMOK coils give somewhere between a few days and a couple of weeks of regular use before flavour drops off. Sub-ohm coils run hotter and tend to wear faster than higher-resistance MTL coils.

Why Does My SMOK Coil Taste Burnt?
A burnt taste almost always means the wick has dried out and scorched. The usual causes are a coil that was fired before it had primed, chain-vaping faster than the wick can keep up, vaping with the tank low on liquid, or simply a coil that has reached the end of its life. Turning the wattage up too high for the coil does the same.
