Lower resistance wants more power. The 0.5Ω X2 is the odd one out, tuned for a gentler 20W to 50W, which suits vapers stepping down from big clouds. Start at the low end of any coil's range, then climb until the flavour lands where you want it.
Which E-Liquid Suits a Sub-Ohm Freemax Coil?
Sub-ohm Freemax coils are built for thicker, high-VG e-liquid. A 70/30 blend or higher wicks properly through the mesh and produces the vapour these coils are designed for.
High VG e-liquid shortfills are the usual match. They come nicotine-free at 0mg, so you add a nicotine shot if you want strength, staying inside the legal 20mg per ml ceiling.
Thin 50/50 nic salts are the wrong pick for a 0.15Ω head. At sub-ohm resistance, 20mg salt is genuinely harsh, and the thinner liquid can wick too fast and flood the coil. Nicotine is addictive, so choose a strength that matches how you actually vape.
The tighter pod and MTL coils in the range are the exception. Those handle 50/50 liquids and salts comfortably at low wattage.
How Do You Fit and Prime a New Coil?
Fitting a Freemax coil takes a couple of minutes. Some screw in and some press in, so check which your platform uses before you start.
- Drain the tank if you are changing a used coil, then unscrew the base or lift the pod free.
- Remove the old head. Threaded coils turn out anticlockwise; press-fit heads like the MX platform pull straight out.
- Prime the new coil. Drip e-liquid onto each exposed cotton port until it looks saturated, usually four or five drops.
- Fit the fresh head, screwing to finger-tight or clicking it fully home. Do not force it.
- Reassemble, fill the tank, and leave it standing for ten minutes so the cotton soaks right through.
- Take two or three gentle draws without firing, then start at low wattage and build up.

Why Does a Freemax Coil Taste Burnt?
A burnt Freemax coil nearly always comes down to priming, or the lack of it. Fire a dry coil once, and the cotton scorches, and no amount of soaking brings it back.
Chain vaping is the next culprit. Mesh coils pull a lot of liquid at high wattage, and drawing faster than the cotton can refill gives you a dry hit. Leave a few seconds between pulls at high power.
Sweet, dark e-liquids shorten coil life too. The sugars caramelise on the mesh and gunk it up, which tastes scorched long before the coil is truly spent.
One more thing worth ruling out: if the vape is leaking or the glass has cracked, that is a hardware fix, not a coil one, and replacement tank glass sorts it.
Are Freemax Coils Legal to Buy in the UK?
