How Do You Prime an Innokin Coil?
Priming is what keeps a new coil from scorching, and Innokin's own advice is worth following:
- Fit the fresh coil into the tank base, screwing or pushing it home depending on your tank.
- Paint a few drops of e-liquid straight onto the cotton showing through the wicking ports until it looks wet.
- Fill the tank, seat the coil, and leave it standing for at least five minutes so the wick draws liquid all the way through.
- Take two or three gentle primer puffs (inhaling on the mouthpiece without pressing the fire button) to draw liquid into the head. Do not apply any power during this step.
- Begin at the lower end of the coil's recommended wattage range and work up slowly, rather than hitting it hard straight away.
Skipping the soak is the fastest route to a ruined coil. Let the cotton wet through, and that first dry, scorched pull simply does not happen.
How Long Do Innokin Coils Last?
There is no set figure, since it comes down to how you vape and what you put through the coil. As a rough steer, many vapers get anywhere from five days to a couple of weeks from a Z-Coil, and reviews back that up, with lighter MTL use at higher resistance tending to last longer than warmer, lower-ohm vaping.
You can nudge that lifespan up: prime every new head, keep the tank above a quarter full so the wick never runs dry, stay within the printed wattage, and go steady on dark, very sweet liquids that caramelise on the coil. When the flavour flattens or turns slightly acrid, the head has given what it has to give.
Why Has My Innokin Coil Gone Burnt?
A burnt, dry hit means the wick has been heated without enough liquid in it. The common triggers are firing a coil that was never primed, chain-vaping quicker than the cotton can rewet, letting the tank run low, or pushing more watts than the coil is rated for. An old, worn head does the same once the cotton is spent.
Sorting it depends on which of those it is. A brand-new coil that tastes burnt was almost certainly under-primed, so fit another and take your time wetting it.
