Refillable Pod Kits

Refillable pod kits put the e-liquid choice back in your hands. Fill the empty 2ml pod with a compatible nic salt or freebase liquid, recharge the battery, then replace the pod or coil only when it wears out. These compact open-system vapes suit adults who want more flavour and strength options than a sealed prefilled range allows.

Pirate Vapes stocks straightforward draw-activated kits alongside adjustable MTL and RDL models from Vaporesso, OXVA, Uwell, SMOK, Aspire, Voopoo, Innokin, Elf Bar and Lost Vape. Compare resistance, battery, airflow and replacement availability before choosing.

Age-verified checkout. Over 18s only.

What Is a Refillable Pod Kit?

What Is a Refillable Pod Kit?

A refillable pod kit is a rechargeable vape with an empty pod that you fill from an e-liquid bottle. The pod clicks or pushes into the battery, and the coil inside heats the liquid held by the wick. Once the pod runs low, open its filling port and top it up again.

There are two common designs:

  • Fixed-coil pods: The coil is sealed inside the cartridge. Replace the complete pod when flavour drops, or the coil wears out.
  • Replaceable-coil pods: Keep the cartridge and change the separate coil head. More parts, but less plastic is discarded each time.

Both are open systems because you choose the bottled liquid. A prefilled kit works differently: its sealed pods arrive filled and should not be opened. The wider Pod Kits range contains both formats, so check for the words “refillable pod” on the individual listing.

Are Refillable Pod Kits Better Than Prefilled Pod Kits?

Better depends on what you find inconvenient. Refillable kits ask for a little more setup, but they remove the flavour and strength limits of a closed pod range.

#table
Feature: Refillable pod kit: Prefilled pod kit
E-liquid: Chosen and added from a bottle: Sealed inside the matching pod
Flavour choice: Broad, within the coil’s liquid requirements: Limited to the manufacturer’s pod range
Nicotine strength: Chosen through the e-liquid: Fixed by the pod variant
Daily setup: Fill, seal and let a new coil soak: Insert a compatible pod and activate
Coil replacement: Change the pod or separate coil: Change the finished prefilled pod
Best fit: Choice, adjustment and lower cost per ml: Bottle-free convenience

If filling a pod sounds like unnecessary work, a prefilled kit may suit you better. If you keep wishing a closed range offered a different flavour, nicotine level or draw, refillable makes more sense.

Which Refillable Pod Kit Should You Buy?

Ignore colour for a minute. The useful question is how much control you want once the kit is in your pocket.

Which Refillable Pod Kit Is Best for Beginners?

Look for draw activation, automatic power adjustment and a top-fill pod. These devices recognise the fitted resistance or use a fixed output, so there is very little to set. Fill, wait, inhale.

A higher-resistance pod commonly gives a tighter mouth-to-lung draw at lower power. It also pairs neatly with the 50/50 liquids sold for compact devices. If that firm inhale is the priority, the MTL Vape Kits collection narrows the search.

Which Refillable Pod Kit Is Best for MTL and RDL?

Pick a kit with at least two pod resistances and adjustable airflow. A 0.8ohm pod may give the tighter MTL option, while a 0.6ohm pod often produces a warmer, looser restricted-direct-lung draw. Those values are common, not universal. Coil design and recommended wattage still decide how each one behaves.

Current ranges such as Vaporesso XROS, OXVA XLIM, Uwell Caliburn, Elf Bar ELFX, and SMOK Novo cover this middle ground. Some set power automatically. Others let you adjust it on a screen. Check what comes in the box because the second resistance is not always included.

Do You Need a Refillable Pod Mod?

Only if you want more power or lower-resistance coils. Pod mods are larger than slim pen-style kits and may add variable wattage, replaceable coil heads, screens, and more open airflow. That gives you greater control, along with more settings to learn.

For ordinary 50/50 nic salt use, a compact pod is usually enough. Choose a pod mod when the manufacturer clearly supports the draw and liquid you want, rather than buying the highest wattage because the number looks better.

What Are the Best Refillable Pod Kit Brands?

The best brand is often the one whose replacement pods are easy to identify and keep in stock. A clever screen means very little when you cannot find the correct cartridge three weeks later.

  • Vaporesso: The XROS range covers simple inhale-activated sticks through to adjustable models with screens. Several devices share XROS pods, though resistance and generation still need checking. Browse Vaporesso Vapes.
  • OXVA: XLIM kits are known for compact bodies, several pod resistances and MTL-to-RDL airflow options. Top-fill and side-fill versions exist, so read the compatibility line carefully. See current OXVA Vapes.
  • Uwell: Caliburn is a long-running refillable family with both fixed-coil and replaceable-coil formats. The model letters matter. A Caliburn G pod is not automatically the right part for every Caliburn device.
  • SMOK and Voopoo: Both brands offer basic pod sticks as well as screen-equipped pod mods. Families such as Novo, Nord, Argus and Drag use different cartridge systems.
  • Aspire and Innokin: Useful choices for straightforward MTL vaping, with model-dependent fixed pods or separate coil heads.
  • Elf Bar and Lost Vape: ELFX and URSA-based devices bring refillable options into two very different ecosystems. One leans towards simple sealed-coil cartridges; the other spans a wider resistance range.

What E-Liquid Is Best for Refillable Pod Kits?

For most compact refillable kits, 50/50 VG/PG is the first ratio to check. It is thin enough for the small wicking ports used in many MTL pods and comes in both nicotine salt and freebase formats.

The table below is a starting point, not a substitute for the device instructions.

#table
Pod setup: E-liquid to check first: Common draw
Higher resistance, roughly 0.8ohm to 1.2ohm: 50/50 nic salt or freebase: Tight MTL
Mid resistance, roughly 0.6ohm to 0.8ohm: 50/50, or a ratio approved by the manufacturer: MTL to RDL
Lower resistance, roughly 0.4ohm to 0.6ohm: Lower-strength liquid in the stated VG/PG range: RDL, sometimes DTL
Low-resistance pod mod coil: Manufacturer-approved high-VG or balanced liquid: RDL to DTL

Nicotine salt liquids are commonly used in low-powered MTL pods and are widely sold in 10mg and 20mg strengths. Freebase gives another option, particularly at lower strengths. Browse Nic Salts or compare the wider 50/50 E-Liquid range.

Do not assume every small pod can handle a 70/30 shortfill. Thick liquid may struggle to reach a compact coil quickly enough, which can lead to dry draws.

Equally, a very thin liquid may leak from a pod designed for higher VG. The recommended ratio printed on the product or manufacturer instructions settles the question.

How Do You Fill a Refillable Pod Vape?

The filling port may sit under the mouthpiece, on the side, or beneath the pod. Once you find it, the job takes a minute.

  1. Check the pod and liquid. Confirm the cartridge fits the exact device and that the VG/PG ratio suits its resistance.
  2. Open the marked fill port. Tilt the pod slightly and add e-liquid against the inner wall. Keep liquid out of the central airflow tube and stop below the maximum line.
  3. Close it properly. Press the seal flat, wipe away any spills, and leave a new pod or coil to soak for the time stated in its instructions. Five minutes is common.
  4. Fit the pod and start gently. Insert it firmly. If wattage is adjustable, begin near the lower end of the recommended range, then increase only if needed.

Do not fire a dry coil to “test” it. The wick needs liquid before the first draw, and scorched cotton does not recover.

How Long Do Refillable Vape Pods Last?

There is no honest universal number. A fixed-coil pod may handle several refills, but lifespan changes with e-liquid sweetness, wattage, draw length, and how often the coil is allowed to cool. Dark, heavily sweetened liquids usually leave residue sooner than simpler blends.

Change the pod or coil when:

  • The flavour stays burnt, stale or unusually weak after refilling;
  • Vapour output drops sharply;
  • Leaking returns after the pod has been cleaned and reseated;
  • The liquid darkens quickly around the wick;
  • Or the device repeatedly shows a coil or resistance error.

Buy the exact cartridge family rather than guessing from the shape. If the pod accepts removable heads, match the model and resistance of the coil instead of replacing the whole cartridge.

Why Is My Refillable Pod Leaking or Tasting Burnt?

Both faults are common, but they point in opposite directions. Leaking usually means liquid is escaping or flooding the airflow. A burnt taste means the wick is too dry, too hot or worn out.

Why Is My Refillable Pod Leaking?

Start with the simple checks:

  • The pod is overfilled, or liquid has entered the central airflow tube.
  • The silicone fill plug is not sitting flat.
  • Condensation has collected beneath the cartridge.
  • The pod is cracked, old, or fitted at an angle.
  • The e-liquid is thinner than the coil is designed for.
  • The device has been left in strong heat, which makes the liquid thinner.

Remove the pod, wipe the contacts and airflow area, then refit it. If the same cartridge leaks again after being filled correctly, replace it. A tissue wrapped around a damaged pod is not a repair.

Why Does My Refillable Pod Taste Burnt?

A new coil may not have soaked for long enough. An adjustable kit may be running above the printed power range. The liquid level could also be too low to keep the wick wet, especially during repeated long draws.

Stop when the taste turns burnt. Letting the pod rest may help only if the wick was briefly dry and has not scorched. If the taste remains, change the pod or coil. Adding more liquid cannot undo burnt cotton.

Are Refillable Pod Kits Cheaper?

They often work out cheaper per millilitre than sealed prefilled pods because the e-liquid is bought separately and one cartridge can be filled more than once. A 10ml bottle can supply up to five 2ml podfuls, although the usable amount and coil life vary by device.

Do the whole calculation:

  1. Kit price.
  2. Bottled e-liquid.
  3. Replacement pod or coil cost.
  4. How long that replacement lasts with the liquid you use.

A low-priced battery is not automatically the cheapest system. Hard-to-find pods, short coil life, or using the wrong liquid can wipe out the saving quickly. Practically speaking, replacement availability matters more than saving a couple of pounds on the first order.

Are Refillable Pod Kits Legal in the UK?

Yes. Refillable, rechargeable pod kits remain legal for adults in the UK. The ban introduced on 1 June 2025 covers single-use vapes, including nicotine-free ones. A reusable vape must be rechargeable and refillable, with a replaceable coil where a coil is used. A coil sealed inside a replaceable pod can meet that requirement because the complete pod is changed.

The existing product limits still apply. UK nicotine-containing tanks and pods are restricted to 2ml, nicotine refill bottles to 10ml, and e-liquid strength to 20mg/ml. Packaging, notification and age-of-sale rules also remain in place.

Rechargeable does not always mean refillable. If the whole device must be discarded after its liquid runs out, it is not a compliant reusable pod kit simply because a charging port is present.

FAQs

Do refillable pod kits come with e-liquid?

Usually not. Most boxes contain the battery, at least one empty pod, a charging cable where supplied, and instructions. E-liquid is bought separately. Always check the box contents on the individual listing.

Can you use nic salts in a refillable pod kit?

Yes, in a compatible low-powered pod. A 50/50 nic salt commonly suits higher-resistance MTL cartridges, but the pod’s liquid and wattage guidance comes first.

Can you put any vape juice in a refillable pod?

No. Match the VG/PG ratio and nicotine strength to the coil, wattage and draw. A thick high-VG liquid may not wick properly in a compact pod, while a thin blend may leak from some lower-resistance designs.

How many times can you refill a vape pod?

There is no fixed refill count. Keep using it while flavour, vapour and sealing remain normal. Replace the cartridge or coil when the taste stays burnt or dull, leaking becomes persistent, or the device stops reading it correctly.

Can you change flavour in the same refillable pod?

Yes. Finish most of the old liquid first, then refill with the new flavour. Some crossover is normal for the first few draws. Use a fresh pod when moving between very different profiles, such as menthol and custard.

Do all refillable pods fit every kit?

No. Not even close. Match the complete device name, cartridge family, generation, and resistance before ordering.

Why is my pod vape bubbling or spitting?

The coil is probably flooded. Remove the pod, wipe the mouthpiece and contacts, clear excess liquid as the instructions allow, then check that it has not been overfilled. Replace a damaged or persistently flooded cartridge.
